Sven B. Schreiber A guy who performed with Sufjan Stevens and contributed artwork for Sarah Kirkland Snider's albums "Penelope" and "Unremebered" surely sparks my interest. And, in fact, what I've heard so far feeds this interest even more. This is the first of David Michael Stith's songs I've listened to, and I had no other choice but purchasing it, due to its mesmerizing quality.

"When You Lost Your Toys" is a character study in verse, investigating the bizarre relationship between the Narcoleptic and his friend, the Kleptomaniac. Sometimes friendship is learning to appreciate one another's best qualities; you spur one another on to greatness, to generate empathy, good will, fair weather, a culture of optimism and support, you fling off the shackles of shame, compromise and long-suffering, learning to trust your intuition, to trust in the better angels of our nature. And sometimes friendship is best left unobserved; you learn to live with what you've got, take the role available to you. Either way, the only way forward is to let go.

“How am I to trust you like I trusted you before?”
said the narcolept to the klepto
“I am tired of keeping one eye open.
Any other man would wash his hands of all you’ve said and done.
But forgive this man his only sin: I don’t tire of all your foul weather”

“And you did run, the tortured son, inconsolable, an idiot
With spurned conceit and your violent streak
You touch down like a funnel cloud.
And the radius of all that’s left, you stare at it and laugh
And then harass yourself wishing for it all back
Your temper boils – I feed off the cataract”

When you lost your toys...

“Hey mark – I um I’m laid off I’m unemployed. I’m bored so I wanted to come see you guys…and I made juice at home here
I did’t know if you still vaped on your e-cig or not but uh I was gonna come bring ya a big bottle of juice for free, just for the holidays just cuz I’m comin in. gimme a call back.I don’t know if you vape, if you do vape still. Gimme a call! 96-96-96. see ya mark....”

And it went on and on this way
“Oh is it love you want?
What’s keeping you from mopping that today?”
But that was all he got to say
His sunrise heart returned
“How long’ve I been long’ve I been long’ve I been long’ve I been out?”

When you lost your toys...
