about

A thesis statement for a new phase of recordings. Written after the end of Sufjan's Age of Adz tour (I toured in his band and opened the shows with my own solo set), worked and reworked for the last 5 years, and finished, finally, with the help of Ben Hillier (rhythm and programming), Paul Wianko (string arrangement), Grey McMurray (guitar) and Shahzad Ismaily (mixing). The song was completed this spring on the Isle of Portland in Dorset where I'd parked myself for a couple weeks of solitude, sea sounds and sporadic torrents of icy hail.

lyrics

Talk to me I want sound
I want it badly
Talk to me i’ll listen
So carefully
Talk to me I want sound
I want sound
Talk to me or I’ll go insane

I’m staying awake...

And I’m still riding on that ninth wave
Listen tell me something
Have I ever said how terrified I am of bright lit mirrors?
Oh yes!
Shall I get it sorted?

No, neither one
Where am I wrong?
What would you do?
Swear on me now
Swear on my now
On my pigeon heart
On my wooden world

Go as you are
Leave me alone
Just me and the moon
And i suddenly know
Yeah I suddenly know
That I’m not alone
When I’m all alone
Now go

I’m staying awake…

I’m not afraid of being alone here, uh-uh...

I’m not afraid I’m not afraid i’m not afraid…

And I’m not afraid of dying in some awful way
adrenaline accounts for so much of it anyway
Is it up to me? Is it up to me?
It’s some other part of me watching on
Calling out to me:
“Is it happening?” “is it happening?” “is it happening?” (smiling) “is it happening??”

And I’m not afraid of dying in some awful way
adrenaline accounts for so much of it anyway
Is it up to me? Is it up to me?
It’s some other part of me watching on
Calling out to me:
“Is it happening?” “is it happening?” “is it happening?” “is it happening?”...
